The Ferris School
13,135 sq. ft. multi-purpose facility with classrooms, therapy spaces, and community amenities.
Emory Hill & Company constructed a 13,135-square-foot residential and commercial-style facility on the Ferris School campus at 1825 Faulkland Road, Wilmington. Designed as the new educational home for youth committed to the Department of Services for Children, Youth, and Their Families’ Level IV Residential Cottages, the state-of-the-art building features classrooms, a large presentation room, multi-purpose spaces for family therapy and staff training, a library and media center, technology center, and dining room. Built with a structural steel frame, masonry and metal stud exterior, and architectural shingle/EPDM roofing, the project incorporates green technologies such as efficient HVAC systems, lighting, renewable resource flooring, and stormwater management, with the facility pursuing LEED Gold certification. The construction process overcame significant weather and logistical challenges, strict LEED requirements, and specialized security needs, and was completed on time and within budget. Delaware Governor Jack Markell participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the $5 million project, celebrating its innovative, environmentally responsible, and secure design.

Testimonials
“The Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families (DSCYF) had the opportunity to work with Emory Hill as the construction company for our Multi-Purpose facility built on the Delaware Youth and Family Center campus. The construction of State Facilities has its challenges-build within the budget while the building must meet LEED accreditation and complete the project on time. Throughout the project, the Emory Hill staff was responsive and assured a high level of quality in construction of the building. Emory Hill staff managed the many construction meetings in a professional manner and made sure all pertinent information was recorded properly. At times during the construction, a solution had to be developed to resolve unforeseen design issues. Emory Hill worked with all parties in a professional manner to find solutions that were satisfactory and met our needs. During the project and throughout the warranty period, there was a collaborative relationship with the State employees, Emory Hill staff and all other organizations involved in the project.”
