Delaware Tech “Energy House”

LEED Platinum green lab and classroom demonstrating cutting-edge sustainable technologies.

Emory Hill provided construction management for the Delaware Technical Community College “Energy House,” a 5,475 square-foot, residential-style educational facility designed as a working laboratory for green building technologies. Built to achieve LEED Platinum certification, the project integrates advanced systems such as geothermal heating, solar power, wind energy, rainwater harvesting, radiant floor heating, and low-VOC materials. The facility showcases energy-efficient products and sustainable design strategies for both residential and commercial applications, giving students hands-on experience with cutting-edge environmental technologies. Despite challenges from strict LEED protocols, donated product integration, and extreme weather, the project was completed on time, within budget, and to the highest environmental standards.

“I want to take this opportunity to comment [the Emory Hill] construction team for your fine work on the recently completed Delaware Technical & Community College “Energy House” project. Your team worked with level heads in seeking resolution to the numerous construction challenges – some of which involved review of various submittal configurations to assure the owner’s representative and owners that the “best” product configurations were being utilized. Emory Hill’s team kept pace with timely communications and efficient execution, with the result being a building that will stand as a hallmark for Sustainable and Green building.”
